Samuel J. Green Charter School Rainwater Catchment System New Orleans, LA

Six EWB-HPC members traveled to New Orleans to design a rainwater catchment system for Samuel J. Green Charter School.  The system collects and stores rainwater and runoff to provide irrigation for the butterfly garden and edible schoolyard.  Eventually, cisterns will be supplemented by a purification and heating system to be used by the school's kitchen.  Not only does this allow the school to save money and recycle water, but in case of emergency, it becomes a self sufficient system for the community.
